Brief Detail

St. Thomas Multipurpose Educational Society (STMES) is a non-profit organization that has been registered under the Societies Registration Act-1860. It has been working towards the holistic development of the deprived, unprivileged, and poor sections of society since 1987. STMES has undertaken various initiatives such as capacity building, social and legal awareness, natural resource management, sustainable livelihood promotion, HIV/AIDS prevention among injecting drug users, drinking water and sanitation, female literacy, formal education for children, and capacity building of social sector organizations working at the grassroots level. The activities of STMES reach out to poor and marginalized women, adolescents, and disadvantaged people from rural and urban areas, with a special focus on unserved and underserved backward areas of different parts of India.

 

STMES believes in a participatory approach and works accordingly for effective and sustainable development. It ensures community participation at every stage of the development process, from problem and need identification to project formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

 

STMES firmly believes that people’s participation leads to long-term efficiency, cost-effectiveness, self-reliance, grassroots initiatives, and finally enhances the community-level organizational capacity.
